Looking to dine with us soon? You’ve made the right choice. As Boston Magazine’s 2023 winner of the “Best Meatball” in the city, our Italian food is the real deal. From hearty classics like lobster cavatelli to off-menu specials like shrimp parmigiana (Dallas Mavericks’ Anthony Davis’s usual order), we’re the North End’s top Italian eatery for a reason.
Below, we’ve put together the “perfect order” for first-time & long-time diners at Strega.
Be Honest: You’re Coming for the Meatball
This is not your Mama’s meatball. Made from a mixture of veal, mushroom, and parmigiano, our giant meatball is big, bulky, and delicious. (One reviewer compared it to the size of a softball.) Covered in pomodoro sauce, and served on top of a generous serving of ricotta cheese, our meatball is the best way to start off your meal at Strega. Split it between your group, and keep the party going.
Don’t Eat Meat? Get The Whipped Ricotta
Our signature whipped ricotta dip features toasted bread, house-made ricotta, fried basil, and citrus toasted breadcrumbs. Need we say more?
For Entrees: Get the Cheese Wheel, Fettuccine Strega, and the Osso Bucco
If you didn’t come for the Meatball, you came for the Cheese Wheel. As the North End’s only “cheese wheel pasta,” our #1 entree doesn’t disappoint. Made tableside, this pasta is rolled over in a 80-lb cheese wheel to your table. One of our chefs will stir, and vigorously torch your pasta inside of the wheel, creating a creamy blend of parmesan, smoke, and Old-World flavors descended from the Middle Age. It’s the cheesiest pasta you can get in the city.
As for our seafood lovers, ever had to choose between getting a shrimp pasta or a scallop pasta? With our Fettuccine Strega, you’ll never need to worry about it again. Here, shrimp and scallop are the stars of the show, but our signature cream sauce gets some of the spotlight, too.
For meat lovers looking for more after the Meatball, our veal chop features a tender cut stuffed with thin, melt-in-your-mouth slices of prosciutto. Paired with a mountain of mashed potatoes and asparagus, both of which are submerged in veal bondo– an Italian spin-off of chicken broth– this dish will send you to sleep shortly after eating.
Got Room Left for Dessert? Get the Cannoli
After all, you’re in the North End, often dubbed America’s “Little Italy.” Order two of our cannolis–one for now, and one for later while you’re out walking the cobblestone streets, with the same moon in Italy staring back at you.
