It’s summer, and thanks to the warmer weather, people are flocking to beaches and cities alike to enjoy time out of the house. Here in Boston, summers are a time when both Bostonians and tourists explore the city for what it has to offer. While Boston is a sizable city with plenty of sights to see and things to do, we would argue that few neighborhoods stand out as much as the North End, where we at Strega are located! Home to rich history, culture, and sightseeing, the North End is a must-see for anyone visiting Boston. In today’s blog, we’ll be taking a look at things to do here in North End!
The Paul Revere House
You don’t need to be a Bostonian to appreciate the historical impact of Paul Revere, a Boston-based patriot immortalized for his famous midnight ride on the night of April 18, 1775. What was once his homestead has evolved into a museum that is now open to tourists year-round. If you’re visiting the North End, and are possibly a history buff, the Paul Revere is an unmistakable destination to add to your list. Boasting the title of downtown Boston’s oldest building – being built in 1680 – visiting the Paul Revere House quite literally feels like walking through history.
The Old North Church
Continuing the trend of historical places in the North End, the Old North Church remains the city’s most storied (and perhaps well-known) church. Established in 1723, the Church enjoys lasting relevance thanks to its role in Paul Revere’s midnight ride, where two lanterns were held on its steeple, signifying that British forces were marching by sea, and not by land. This event was further made famous in the poem “Paul Revere’s Midnight Ride” by Henry Longfellow. Today, the Old North Church remains a historical landmark, while being the longest-serving Episcopal congregation in the city of Boston, a feat that is impressive in its own right.
